Owners Jennifer LaRoche and Erica Jerrier met in 2003 when they both worked at a salon and day spa in Boston. They had always wanted to start their own business, but when they left their former place of employment, they had to sign a non-compete agreement. That meant having a new salon/spa in Boston was not possible.

After looking at a number of other locations, Merrimac, Massachusetts “fit all of our criteria,” LaRoche said.

The once vacant storefront was brought to life by LaRoche’s father who has a background in the construction business. He gave advice and tools to the two women who helped him physically construct the 2500-square-foot space. They opened their doors in December 2005.

In the last decade, the full-service salon as served hundreds of clients in this small town of about 6,000 residents. They provide haircuts and styling, nail services, facials, waxing, body treatments and massage. LaRoche and Jerrier say they make a point of continuing their education on all the trends and latest technology to keep the business current.

Merrimac is roughly diamond-shaped town with total area of 8.8 square miles. It's very close to two major highways and also borders the state of New Hampshire.

“There are no traffic lights in Merrimac,” says LaRoche. “The big gossip in town now is a new rotary that is being built in the center of town to help traffic flow,” she explains, “Most residents are not happy about it. It has always been known as ‘the square,’ but now with the rotary, they are calling it the ‘squircle.’”

Out-of-towners are sometimes confused about where the salon is located because Main Street is also Route 110, a two-lane state highway. However, LaRoche notes that having this address has helped business, “We have never had a problem...we have had clients say they remember our address because it is 123 East Main Street.”
